Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) beat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by two runs in an absolute thriller at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in IPL 2025 on May 3. Batting first, RCB got off to a flying start with Virat Kohli (62 off 33 balls) and Jacob Bethell (55 off 33 balls) putting on a 97-run opening partnership. Chennai Super Kings made a comeback in the contest after dismissing both openers were dismissed in quick time. The trio of Devdutt Padikkal (17), Rajat Patidar (11) and Jitesh Sharma (7) failed to make much of an impact but RCB's innings saw some late impetus provided by Romario Shepherd, who smashed an unbeaten 53 off just 14 deliveries. The West Indies all-rounder equalled the record of the second fastest IPL fifty (14 balls) and his 56-run partnership off just 15 balls with Tim David helped RCB post a solid 213/5. For CSK, Matheesha Pathirana took three wickets for 36 runs while Noor Ahmad (1/26) and Sam Curran (1/34) finished with one scalp each. In response, CSK had a strong start with youngsters Ayush Mhatre and Shaik Rasheed stitching a 51-run opening stand. Shaik Rasheed was dismissed but Ayush Mhatre delighted the Chinnaswamy crowd with some superb shots on both sides of the wicket. He scored 94 runs off 48 balls and added 114 runs with Ravindra Jadeja (77* off 45 balls). After his dismissal, Ravindra Jadeja continued to find the boundaries but, in the end, Yash Dayal defended 15 runs off the last over to win the game for RCB.
